Welcome to the February 2021 issue of Living. Loving. Growing. online magazine!
The seemingly obvious choice for my first February issue of the magazine was LOVE. Easy enough – I write about love all the time. I also knew immediately that I wanted to use the issue to pay tribute to my dearly departed friend, Sarah Elizabeth, who inspired my song Infinite Love Squared, and who I introduced to readers in my inaugural issue in the article Blue Butterflies.
Again, I imagined this to be an easy personal assignment. I can’t say enough about the life and love of this amazing woman! And yet, I kept struggling to put words to the page. The more that I looked back on our friendship, her life, her art, and her message, the more I realized that I had done something entirely un-Sarah-like with my magazine. I had made it formulaic. Because that’s what one does if they want to create something “successful,” right? They follow the lead of others before them.
I feel 100% certain that Sarah’s response to that would be “Definitely not!” Well, truthfully, I think her words directly to me would have been far more colorful. I could just hear her giving me a stern talking to, “It’s ART, Erin! It’s YOUR art! Be Bold! Be daring! CREATE!” I could see her articulating this important point while gesturing grandly with a large spoon she was using to stir a pot of something delicious on the stove, pausing for a moment to sip on her glass of wine.
And so, I dedicate this month’s issue to her, choosing to ditch the formula and color outside of the lines. It is a series of “love poems” inspired by my wonderful friend who never stopped reminding me that love and life are meant to be extraordinary. (For those who have been enjoying the formula, don’t worry, I will return to it next month. I do, however, reserve the right to switch it up again in the future when it feels good to do so.)
Wishing you all the best,
